From neglect to sanctuary

Kingston’s journey began on a breeding farm in Eastern Ontario, where he faced neglect right from the start. Caring hands were not part of his experience, and he received no training, resulting in feral-like behaviour whenever humans tried to interact with him.

In a turn of fate, when the breeding farm owner lost interest, Kingston found his way to a neighbour. But his struggles continued until the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada came to his rescue in the early summer of 2017.

Since then, our dedicated animal care staff at the DSC has been working tirelessly to help Kingston adjust to a new life at the Sanctuary.

With patience and consistent care, Kingston continues to make incredible progress every day. He now tolerates haltering and gentle touches on his face and he can have regular hoof care as part of his routine.

The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada is a not-for-profit licensed charity. Our mission is to provide a lifelong home to donkeys, mules and hinnies that are unwanted, neglected or abused and we promote the responsible stewardship of all animals through humane education. We envision a world in which the dignity and worth of all creatures are recognized and respected.
