As the temperatures drop and the seasons change, the DSC will be closed to visitors for the winter months. This seasonal closure ensures that our donkeys remain safe and comfortable during the coldest part of the year.
Why We Close in Winter
Winter can be a challenging time for both humans and animals. At the DSC, our top priority is providing the best care for our donkeys. During the winter months:
- Donkey Comfort: Our donkeys spend more time in their cozy indoor paddocks to stay warm and dry. This reduces their exposure to harsh weather conditions and ensures they remain healthy and happy. But, they do have access to the outdoors and on sunny days many choose to spend some time outdoors.
- Safety First: Snow and ice can make the sanctuary’s lane and pathways hazardous for visitors. Closing for the season helps prevent accidents and ensures everyone’s safety.
When Will We Reopen?
We reopen to visitors in the spring when the weather improves, and the sanctuary grounds are ready to welcome visitors again. Visiting days will resume on the first Sunday in May.
How You Can Stay Connected
Even though our gates are closed for the season, there are still plenty of ways to stay involved and support the sanctuary:
- Follow Us Online: Keep up with our donkeys’ winter adventures on our social media platforms. We’ll share updates, photos, and stories to keep you connected to the herd.
- Shop Our Store: Check out our online store for donkey-themed gifts. Proceeds directly support the care of our donkeys.
- Donate: Your generous contributions help us provide food, shelter, and medical care for our donkeys year-round. Every donation makes a difference.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding. We look forward to welcoming you back in the spring to reconnect with our charming donkeys and enjoy the sanctuary’s beauty.
