Jennet (Female donkey)

Ariel came to us from a farm in the Kawartha area where she had been housed with cattle as well as 10 of her donkey friends. Ariel and her friends had no appropriate shelter, nutrition, or care.

Within the herd, there were also intact male donkeys, thus, Ariel arrived at the DSC with a foal, Melody, by her side. We suspect that this foal was not Ariel’s first baby. And, as it turned out, it would not be her last. Within a few months of Ariel’s arrival to the DSC, we found out that she was expecting again and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Gwyn, in October 2022 at the Sanctuary Farm.

When Ariel arrived at the DSC she was quite unsure of her new life. But with time, patience, and gentle handling from our staff and volunteers, Ariel was able to come out of her shell and adjusted comfortably to her life at the DSC.

In October 2024, Ariel graduated to a DSC Host Farm along with her friend Cayenne.
