Tooth floating—donkeys need dental care, too
Tooth floating for donkeys is a essential part of their health regimen
To achieve our mission, we rely on the support of individuals like you, who share our commitment to donkeys.
It costs approximately $2,000/year to care for a single donkey, mule, or hinny at the DSC. This cost can skyrocket in the event of emergency veterinary care, chronic conditions due to previous neglect or abuse, or any number of unforeseen difficulties that can arise. Your donations allow us to provide this ongoing care and to address emergency situations as they occur.
You may make a one-time donation or provide ongoing support by becoming a monthly donor. You can also choose to sponsor a donkey, for yourself or a loved one.
You may also help our work via our newly developed Legacy Lane Memorial and Tribute Program, in which we’ll plant a tree in honour of a loved one’s memory. In so doing, you support the animals in our care and provide important environmental stewardship. To find out more about this program, please email info@thedonkeysanctuary.ca.
When you donate securities to the DSC, you directly impact the lives of our animals in a profound way. This form of giving not only benefits you with potential tax advantages but also ensures our donkeys receive the essential care and rehabilitation they need.
Donating securities makes good financial sense. In most cases, we tend to think of cash when making donations to charities. Now, however, in Canada the giving of securities is becoming much more common and this method is often superior to cash. In 2007, the federal government decision was made to allow donations of publicly listed securities to public charities to be exempt from capital gains taxation.
If you would like further information about how you can support the work of the Sanctuary in this manner, please contact our Executive Director Janine Holman at janineh@thedonkeysanctuary.ca.
All discussions will be in confidence. Alternatively, if you wish, you may simply download and fill out the form here and return it to us via mail.
The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada is a not-for-profit licensed charity. Our mission is to provide a lifelong home to donkeys, mules and hinnies that are unwanted, neglected or abused and we promote the responsible stewardship of all animals through humane education. We envision a world in which the dignity and worth of all creatures are recognized and respected.

In 2021, we noticed the hoof wall on Oliver’s hind hooves was wearing down unevenly. Our farrier suggested hoof taps to prevent uneven wear
